Lundén Architecture Company wins housing block competition in Pihlajaniemi

Lundén Architecture Company, together with Lapti Oy and YH Kodit, have been selected to develop a housing block in Pihlajaniemi. The competition was organized by Senate Properties and the City of Turku, and the master plan was prepared by Gehl Architects and AJAK. The winning proposal, “Kaanalinpiha” aims to create a versatile and multi-faceted housing block that prioritizes greenery and wellbeing. The proposal further develops the master plan principles for a lively and safe district, and highlights the importance of “soft edges” in fostering an active street life. The design consists of an interconnected network of social and green spaces that act as formal and informal meeting places for its residents and visitors. The block will include about 300 units and be constructed in three phases from 2022 to 2026.
