Bellanranta Beach Suites
We are excited to share that the construction of the Bellanranta Beach Suites on Lake Kallavesi in Kuopio will start soon. A series of high-end suites located along the shore of Lake Kallavesi form the first stage of an impressive resort complex, transforming the former industrial area of Bella Boats into a unique tourist destination with a strong identity. The Bellanranta development supports Kuopio’s strategic goal to promote tourism in the region.
The Beach Suites create a new kind of architecture that supports the unique character of the place. They are based on a Zollinger structure with a prefabricated CLT module that forms a warm unit with a living and bedroom area along with a bathroom, which is wrapped with a wooden mesh. Parametric design makes it possible to visualise, modify and duplicate the wooden mesh into different iterations while optimising functionality, cost and buildability.
The suites are designed as semi-detached houses to facilitate the many different needs of guests by making it easy to combine adjoining suites to form a larger one. In addition to the bedroom and recessed kitchen, the suites offer a designated studio space for working. The largest suites also have their own sauna with a lake view. To complement the suites, a grand suite is proposed which serves breakfast in the morning and at other times of the day, can turn into a space for events.
Featuring large landscape windows, the Beach Suites open out to the natural beauty of the Kallavesi archipelago. The spacious terrace spanning the entire width of the living area of the suites extends the space out towards the lake. From the terrace, wooden stairs lead directly to the lake for swimming during the summer and in the winter, ski tracks on the frozen lake.
Wood offers an ecologically sustainable material that lends itself well with the delicate natural environment of the lake area. The use of prefabricated CLT modules allow for variation in design as well as an efficient and short construction process, minimising burden on the site’s landscape.
Lundén Architecture Company is the designer of the beachfront suites and the Bella Lake Resort area. The main contractor is the local RP-Karmi Oy. Arttu Suuronen, a professional in wood construction, serves as the construction consultant. The developer of the Beach Suites is Bella Resort Oy founded by Raimo Sonninen and Tatu Naamanka.
