Kupittaa Core implementation phase begins January 2026
The City of Turku and its partners YIT, Lundén Architecture and Renell Käppi Architects have signed agreements to begin the implementation phase of the Kupittaa Core partnership project. Construction of the Taito Campus and the Kupittaa Core infrastructure project in Turku Science Park will start in January 2026.
The City Council unanimously approved the implementation plans on November 17, 2025, following the legal confirmation of the first phase of the local detailed plan on November 15, 2025. Both the Taito Campus and the infrastructure project are expected to be complete by the end of 2028.
The exceptionally large and diverse initiative is one of Turku’s most significant urban development projects. It will connect the Kupittaa and Itäharju districts into a vibrant urban hub. The Taito Campus of Turku Vocational Institute will be the new home of approximately 3 000 students and 300 staff members in the service-sector professions.
The infrastructure project will feature a public transport deck crossing Helsinginkatu and the railway, a parking facility with a mobility hub, the Vipusenaukio public deck square, and a pavilion serving as entry point to the activities below the deck. The plan also includes building rights for future offices and residential developments, supporting the long-term growth of the area.
